The Project

“Conflict Management and Resolution” was initiated in 2015 as part of the research strand “Security Studies, War and Peace” of the OBSERVARE research centre. The objective of the project is to undertake academic research, applied research for public policy and advanced university training in the area of Conflict Management and Resolution.

In the first phase (May 2015 to Jully 2018) the project was co-coordinated by General Carlos Branco and Professor Ricardo Sousa. In this phase the project’s goals were to make a state of the art assessment of the theoretical framework regarding Conflict Management and Resolution, which were gathered in two publications:
• Thematic issue of the journal JANUS.NET, e-journal of International Relations Vol. 7, No. 1 (May-October 2016) co-edited by Carlos Branco and Ricardo Sousa. Published in Portuguese and English. link
• Book published in Portuguese entitled “Incursões na Teoria da Resolução de Conflitos”. Lisbon: OBSERVARE-UAL, 2017, co-edited by Carlos Branco, Ricardo Sousa and Gilberto Oliveira. link

In the second phase of the project, initiated in August 2018, the project is coordinated by Prof. Ricardo Sousa and aims to apply the theoretical framework identified previously to case studies.

With this goal, an international conference will take place on 28 and 29 of November 2018, which will lead to two publications in 2019: a thematic issue at JANUS.NET, e-journal of International Relations (SCOPUS) and a book.
