World War and International Relations

100 years after 1914

The centenary of the First World War was the starting point for an analysis of how this armed conflict has influenced the world; ours is not a historical but rather an International Relations perspective – the conference aimed to discuss the impact that First World War had on humanitarian law and on the appearance of International Relations in academia, its consequences in terms of future wars and in collective security systems, as well as the changes in the use of violence throughout these hundred years.

The congress took place over two days – 2 and 3 July 2014 – at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Avenida de Berna, in Lisbon.
